2.0 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)
Candidates seeking admission to Ph.D programmes must:
• Have an M.Phil/researched M.A/M.Ed/M.Sc/MBA degree in an appropriate field of study from a recognized University.
• Submit an official transcript of academic record.
• Submit at least three reference reports, one of which must be from a former Lecturer.
• Submit a proposal of 3-5 pages of intended area of study including a working bibliography.
• Pass a selection interview
• Satisfy any additional requirements prescribed by the Faculty/School/Department.
Master of Philosophy/Commerce/Nursing (M.Phil/M.Com/MN) Programmes
Candidates seeking admission to M.Phil/M.Com/MN degree programmes must:
• Have obtained a good first degree (at least a second class division) in an appropriate field of study from a recognized University/analogous Institution.
• Submit an official transcript of academic record.
• Submit at least two reference reports, one of which must be from a former  Lecturer.
• Submit a 2-3 page proposal on intended area of study including references.
• Pass a selection interview.
Satisfy any additional requirements prescribed by the Faculty/ School/ Department;   these may  include a selection interview.
Master of Arts/Science/Education/Business Administration (M.A/M.Sc/M.Ed/MBA) Programmes
Candidates seeking admission to MA/MSc/M.Ed/MBA degree programmes must:
• Have obtained a good first degree (at least a second class division) in an appropriate field of study from a recognized University/analogous Institution.
• Submit an official transcript of academic record.
• Submit names of two referees, one of whom must be a former Lecturer.
• Satisfy any additional requirements prescribed by the Faculty/School/Department.
3.0 DURATION AND STRUCTURE OF PROGRAMMES
Ph.D
36 Months -Full Time
The Ph.D Programme shall consist of two parts. These shall be by one year of course work or directed reading, and two years for thesis writing which shall be a requirement for the award of the Ph.D.
M.Phil/M.Com/MN
24 Months -Full Time
The M.Phil/M.Com/MN Programmes shall normally extend over four semesters (two academic years) and shall be in two parts. The first part shall consist of the course work for one academic year (two semesters). On successful completion of the first part and on the recommendation of the Department’s Committee on Graduate Studies, a student may proceed to the second part comprising the writing of a thesis which shall be a requirement for the award of the M.Phil/M.Com Degree.
MA/M.Sc/ME.d/ MBA
12 Months -Full Time
M.A/MSc/M.Ed/MBA programmes are in two parts. The first part shall consist of two semesters of course work and the second part is made up of writing a dissertation which is a requirement for the award of the MA/M.Sc./M.Ed/MBA.

Specific Entry Requirements for M. Phil Programmes in the Institute for Educational Planning and Administration
i. Holders of a good B.Ed degree from any recognized University who have taught for not less than two (2) years after completion of their degree programmes.
ii. Holders of a good B.A. or B.Sc. degree must, in addition, hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) or Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the University of Cape Coast or any recognized University and must have taught for not less than two (2) years after completion of their degree programme.
iii. Applicants for M.Phil in Educational Planning who have knowledge in Economics at the first degree level in addition to (i) and (ii) above, will have an advantage.
iv. M. Phil in Administration in Higher Education: In addition to requirements under (i) and (ii) above, applicants who have worked as administrators in Higher Educational Institutions for not less than two years will have an advantage.
v. Candidates would have to pass a selection interview.
4.3  COLLEGE OF DISTANCE EDUCATION (CoDE)
• M.Ed.  (Information Technology)
This is a UNESCO initiated programme for capacity building involving collaboration between the University of Cape Coast and the University of Pretoria in South Africa.
Status and Duration:   The M.Ed (Information Technology) programme can be attended full-time or part-time for 18 months or 24 months respectively. The full-time admission option is residential while the part-time is non-residential. Part-time students will attend lectures during weekends of every fortnight; Friday, 2.00 p.m; – 7.00 pm, Saturday, 8.30 a.m – 5.00p.m  and   Sundays 8.30 a.m –2.00 p.m.
Specific Entry Requirements:
Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) in any field OR B.A/BSc./B.Com etc with Diploma in Education ( Dip.Ed)/Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) OR Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
Additional Requirement:
All candidates must have extensive knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access in addition to the above requirements. Knowledge in any programming language will be an added advantage.

Duration: The M.Ed programme is for a duration of three (3) semesters. The M.Phil will require two additional semesters for the Thesis (i.e. 3 semesters of Course Work and 2 semesters for research.
