ADMISSION OF CANDIDATES TO DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES - 2015/2016 ACADEMIC YEAR

Application forms for admission to diploma programmes in the University for Development Studies (UDS) will be available online at www.uds.edu.gh from Monday, January 27, 2015 for holders of the following qualifications;
Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSSCE), West African Senior Secondary School Certificate (WASSCE)
The following courses are currently offered by the University.
i. Nyankpala Campus
SANDWICH DIPLOMA COURSES 2015
Sandwich courses will be mounted by the Faculty of Agriculture leading to the award of diplomas in Agriculture Technology, Biotechnology, Family Consumer Sciences and Agricultural Education. Graduates from the diploma courses may further their education at the bachelor degree level in their respective area of study. The sandwich courses will be hosted at the Nyankpala Campus of the University for Development Studies during the long vacations. The diploma courses will be completed in three sessions over three (3) year. Each session of the programme will take a period of seven (7) weeks. Each course will attract a fee of eight hundred and ninety Ghana Cedis (GHC 890.00) for the first session, one thousand and ninety Ghana Cedis (GHC 1,090.00) for the second session and one thousand three hundred and ninety Ghana Cedis (GHC 1,390.00) for the third session.
Start time: July 6th to August 28th 2015.
Below are the short courses to be offered by the Faculty of Agriculture, University for Development Studies, Tamale.
1. Diploma In Agriculture Technology
Objectives
By the end of the programme, students will:
- Acquire knowledge, core competencies and skills characteristics of an Agriculture diploma programme.
- Be adequately prepared for business careers.
- Develop analytical skills to promote critical thinking and innovation in the discovery of new approaches to solve agriculture production problems in Ghana.
Target group
SSSCE or WASSCE holders, junior scientists, Industrialists, Technicians, certificate in agriculture holders, HND holders, staff of Ministry of Food and Agriculture and Agric-based NGOs
2. Diploma In Biotechnology
Objectives
By the end of the course Participants should:
- Have a thorough understanding of biotechnology
- Acquire skills , knowledge and expertise required to pursue career in either scientific and non scientific areas
Target group
SSSCE or WASSCE holders, Scientists, industrialists, technicians, laboratory assistance, HND holders, Graduates from other disciplines
3. Diploma in Family and Consumer Sciences
Objectives
The general aim of the programme is to help students acquire the requisite knowledge and skills for the support of individuals and families to meet their physical, social and economic needs.
By the end of the course students should develop appropriate knowledge and skills geared towards self-reliance as well as enhance their capacities in educational development.
Target group
Advance Catering/ Fashion, DBS holders, GCE ‘O’ Level, SSSCE, and WASSCE holders. Teachers with Certificate A can also apply for the course.
4. Diploma In Agricultural Education
Objectives
By the end of the programme, students will:
- Acquire knowledge, core competencies and skills to teach agriculture and related subjects at the basic and higher schools.
- Be adequately prepared for business careers.
- Develop analytical skills to promote critical thinking and innovation in the discovery of new approaches to solve educational and agricultural problems in Ghana.
Target group
SSSCE or WASSCE holders, junior scientists, Industrialists, Technicians, HND holders and staff of Ministry of Food and Agriculture and Agric-based NGOs. Teachers with Certificate A with science background can also apply for the course.

The Faculty of Education is admitting suitably qualified persons into a fulltime Diploma programme in the following course
- 2-Year Diploma in Development Education
GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
i.SSSCE/WASSCE Holders (for Diploma Programmes)
Candidates who do not meet the requirements for Degree programmes in UDS are advised to apply for any one of the Diploma programmes (Diploma in Integrated Community Development, Diploma in Integrated Business Studies, and Diploma in Development Management all of which are offered at the Wa Campus; Diploma in Development Education is offered in Tamale Campus; Diploma in Statistics and Diploma in Computer Science are both offered in Navrongo Campus)
To be admitted into a Diploma programme, five credits passes in English
Language and Mathematics plus credit passes in any three other subjects in SSSCE/WASSCE is required. Any candidate without a credit pass in English Language and Mathematics (core) need not apply for the Diploma.
MODE OF APPLICATION DOMESTIC (GHANAIAN) APPLICANTS
All Ghanaian applicants for the 2015/2016 Academic Year admissions are required to use the UDS online application portal. The procedure for the online application process is as follows:
i. Make a payment of GH¢ 180.00 (One Hundred and Eighty Ghana Cedis) for the UDS E-Voucher at any Ecobank, GCB, ADB and Zenith Bank branches throughout the country.
ii. The E-Voucher contains the Pin, and Serial Number required in completing the online form.
iii. Access the online form by visiting our online admissions portal at www.uds.edu.gh/apply soon after payment.
iv. In completing the online form, students will be required to upload their passport size photographs and certificates/results slips
v. A completed form is not considered until it is SUBMITTED
vi. Applicants are advised to check thoroughly all details entered before finally submitting their online applications. A form, once submitted, can be viewed, but cannot be edited.
vii. Applicants must print out application summary; attach results slips, certificates and all other relevant documents. These documents should be submitted in triplicates (three copies each) to the Senior Assistant Registrar (Academic & Student Affairs).
viii. Candidates are strongly advised to visit any EMS Office in the Country for assistance towards the return of the application documents (see vii). Applicants are advised not to post the forms themselves. They should seek the advice and services of Ghana Post (EMS).
